Who is ready for the May Bank holiday? We sure are, and with our range of sparkling teas, we are getting ready to celebrate in style. In this article, we are going to be looking at why we celebrate the May Bank holiday, how to celebrate as a non-drinker and how you can enjoy a glass of fizz without the alcohol.
Why Do We Celebrate May Bank Holiday?
For those of you who don’t already know, we are approaching another (yes, another!) three-day weekend. This year, the May Bank Holiday falls on Monday 2nd May. Meaning we get a lovely Monday morning lie-in and coffee in bed instead of rushing out the door for work. But do you know why we celebrate the May Bank Holiday?
Well, this day is believed to have begun as part of a Roman festival to celebrate the beginning of summer in the northern hemisphere. This Roman festival celebrated Flora, the goddess of flowers and spring. In modern days, the early May bank holiday became associated with worker’s rights as it was formalised as a Bank Holiday by the government in 1978. This bank holiday often coincides with May Day (1st May) and, while May Day is not a bank holiday itself, the two are often celebrated simultaneously. It marks the beginning of new life and the first day of Summer and was traditionally celebrated through activities such as Maypoling and the crowning of the ‘May King’ or ‘Queen’.
How To Celebrate in Style
Now that we know where this day originated from, let’s get down to the important bit – how to celebrate in style. Like most holidays or national days off, the day is typically spent with a glass of wine or bubbly. However, for those of us who either don’t want to drink alcohol or are trying to cut down, make healthier choices and avoid that dreaded hangover there is still plenty of fun (and drinks) to be had.
Don’t hold us to this, but the weather is apparently meant to be great this bank holiday which means that we will surely be celebrating outside! So, just in case you need some non-alcoholic cocktail inspiration, we’ve got you covered. We would recommend our Big Green serve.
You will need:
- 15ml pea purée
- Half a bottle of 275ml REAL Dry Dragon
- 25ml apple juice
- A handful of mint
- 100g sugar
We also recommend sipping it outside, soaking up the sun while enjoying your May Bank holiday off.
Go On, Pour Yourself A Glass of Fizz!
Many people love to pop a cork on a bottle of prosecco or even a bottle of champagne to truly celebrate. Did you know that sparkling tea makes the perfect alternative to these fizzy beverages? With all the flavour and complexity of its alcoholic cousins, REAL Sparkling Tea has the perfect balance of acidity and astringency without the headache the next day! As well as being delicious, they are also lower in calories and sugar. Instead of drinking a glass of champagne this May Bank holiday, why not have a glass of sparkling tea instead.
