With the second national lockdown now upon us, we wanted to let you know that we’re still brewing, bottling and shipping our non-alcoholic alternatives to sparkling wine, just as we did the first time around. This is, of course, in accordance with government guidelines, with our brewery team continuing to work in COVID-safe conditions.
While our drinks are award-winningly delicious, there are other reasons that you might want to take stock and drink up during this challenging period. Have a read through our little list. We’d appreciate it if you shared this article with your friends and family. As with most small businesses the world over, we’re doing what we can to keep going, and your support is hugely appreciated.
We make healthy drinks
A lot is said about the gut-health benefits of kombucha, and while we’ve written about that before, we’re particularly excited by the sugar-related benefits, not to mention the positive effects that swapping a nightly glass of wine for kombucha could potentially have on your drinking habits.
One of the things we’re most proud of at REAL is just how delicious our healthy drinks are. It’s kinda rare to find something quite so complex, adult, and unsweetened that simultaneously packs such a low punch in the sugar and calories department. We’ve written about this extensively elsewhere on this website, but in short:
1 regular wine glass of REAL Royal Flush = 30 calories*
Sure, it’s not as pure and sugar-free as a glass of water, but as non-alcoholic drinks go, it’s a natural drink that sits a long way from some of the mass-produced sweet and sticky stuff on the shelves. Not only is this one of the tastiest healthy drinks you’ll come across, it’s also very much for adults. You can drink REAL safe in the knowledge that nobody is going to offer you a straw and a seat with the other kids in the corner.
For more info on healthy drinks (and eating in general) during this second lockdown period, here’s a great little podcast we did with our favourite nutritionist, Adrian Hodgson, a few months ago.
Our drinks are brewed for open minds
Brewed for open minds, eh? Weird thing to say, perhaps, but we love the fact that our drinks can work for so many different occasions. Sure, you might have to get your head around why tea works so well as an ingredient in good non-alcoholic wines (and this article may help with that), but once you’re there, all kinds of ideas open up.
During this lockdown period, why not try your hand at some of our non-alcoholic cocktail recipes. We’re growing a great little collection on our website, many of which involve other fascinating ingredients, some of which you may not have tried before. Why not knock together a shrub-based Citrus Buck’s Fizz, for example? Say goodbye to boring old orange juice and fizzy water: these flavours are complex, moreish and positively decadent.
And you needn’t stop at cocktails. The world of fermentation is full of fascinating flavour, and we’ve got loads of ideas and recipes here on our website. In fact, we recorded a relatively recent podcast with two Koji Masters on this very subject. Not sure what a Koji Master is? Plug in your ear goggles and hit the play button below.
Our drinks are wonderful non-alcoholic options
This one kinda goes without saying, but so many of you do say it that it’s worth highlighting.
If you’re looking for a non-alcoholic alternative to a sparkling wine, REAL hits the spot for so many people. We regularly receive messages from our community on social media and via email tellings us how much we’ve helped people alter their drinking habits. Many explain that having a bottle of Royal Flush or Dry Dragon in the fridge means that they have something different to reach for when that “Wine O’clock” urge kicks in. Having had a small hand in improving people’s sense of well-being makes us incredibly proud. What more could we ask for?
Whatever your reasons for doing so, most experts believe that cutting back on your alcohol consumption can have a positive effect on your mental health. Here’s an article on how it helped a member of our team, as well as a non-drinking diary put together by another**.
We’ve also done several podcasts on this subject. Crack on with the Sober Curiosity podcast below, featuring journalist, Ruby Warrington. We hope it offers a little inspiration, alongside your bottle of REAL, as you sit out the coming month at home.
** While we hope that these articles help your sense of well-being, please note that alcohol dependency is a medical condition best worked on in conjunction with medical professionals. Click here for the NHS website on alcohol support.
